Why are the greens faster in winter?

With the colder winter weather settling in we can water the greens less and create much firmer surfaces. Greens require significantly less water during winter compared to our warm summer months. During summer we often must water the greens multiple times during hot days just to prevent the grass from stressing. All this moisture affects the firmness of the putting surfaces and contributes to slower green speeds.

During winter we can water less and let the surfaces dry out without harming the grass. The drier firmer surfaces increase the green speeds and combined with the slower growth of the grass plants we often measure green speeds above 11” on the stimp meter.

Energy transfer to the ball is improved right across the face with the new i-FLEX face structure of the Srixon ZXi Drivers.

The added strength of the interior structure allows the center of the face to be thinner, resulting in more energy transfer and a faster ball speed.
