MOSSEL BAY (May 2016) – Over the past years the Education and Training Hub for Autism Needs (ETHAN’s) has reached more than 2000 community members with their programmes. ETHAN is going all out again and will be hosting their 3rd Annual Golf day as a fundraising event on Saturday the 21st of May 2016 at Pinnacle Point Golf Club, Mossel Bay. It promises to be an exceptional golf day for an extraordinary cause with dramatic views and breath-taking terrain as backdrop!
Dr Temple Grandin (also an adult with autism) said ʺI had people in my life who didn’t give up on me: my mother, my aunt, my science teacher. I had one-on-one speech therapy. I had a nanny who spent all day playing turn-taking games with me. ʺ The support ETHAN gives to members of their community is of the utmost importance. Their mission of educating and empowering parents, caregivers, and individuals affected by autism spectrum disorder goes to the core of serving people living with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). ETHAN plans to support ten families and aim to provide them with real help and advice on autism related matters. The fact that they have a support team of professionals who specialise in ASD is paramount in the service ETHAN renders (paediatrician, occupational therapist, speech therapist, educational psychologist, education specialist, nutrition expert etc.). Service like this is costly and ETHAN welcomes any assistance in making this care available to the families.
Pinnacle Point Golf Course is celebrating its 10th birthday since its inception and is undoubtedly the stuff all golfers’ dreams are made of. What makes Pinnacle Point even more extraordinary is that it is classified as a Provincial Heritage Site and is also listed with UNESCO for nomination as a World Heritage Site because it is the place that revealed the earliest evidence for modern human behaviour. A golf day hosted on such a premier golf course will be delight to all participants!
ETHAN offers brilliant opportunities for the private and business sector to contribute to this charitable cause. Any contribution will make a difference in the lives of those who live with autism in the Mossel Bay community. Funders may sponsor a hole (or a hole-in-one) or the Golf Day Dinner, and/or perhaps donate a raffle prize or goodies for the welcome bag. Make use of this opportunity to sponsor a four ball or more and treat your friends and clients to a day on this heavenly golf course. Dr Grandin said “Social thinking skills must be directly taught to children and adults with ASD. Doing so opens doors of social understandings in all areas of life.” Help ETHAN to open these doors and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
